The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has announced a major breakthrough in the protracted dispute regarding the migration of Colleges of Education teachers (CETAG) onto the public universities’ grade structure.

This significant development comes amidst an ongoing industrial action undertaken by CETAG, which has been seeking redress for grievances pertaining to remuneration and working conditions.

According to the FWSC, a government-constituted Migration Committee, established on August 29, 2024, has worked tirelessly to address CETAG’s concerns.

The committee comprised representatives from key government bodies, including the FWSC, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Ministry of Finance (MOF), Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD), Ministry of Education (MOE), and the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF).

The FWSC has confirmed that the outstanding issue of migrating CETAG staff onto the university grade structure has been resolved. Furthermore, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department has successfully processed payments for beneficiaries during the January 2025 payment window.

The Research Allowance top-up has also been paid to all Colleges of Education, except for the Akrokerri College of Education, which is being processed.

The FWSC has commended the collaborative efforts of GTEC, MOF, CAGD, MOE, and PRINCOF in addressing CETAG’s concerns. In light of this significant development, the FWSC has urged CETAG to call off its strike and allow normal academic activities to resume in the Colleges.

The FWSC emphasized the importance of collaboration and open communication in resolving potential future issues, stating that “a harmonious and collaborative approach is essential in addressing the concerns of CETAG and ensuring the smooth operation of the Colleges of Education.”

The commission remains open to dialogue and looks forward to working with CETAG to find mutually beneficial solutions.
