Nana B sues the government over ‘unlawful’ termination of recruitments and appointments

A lawsuit has been filed by Henry Nana Boakye, a private legal practitioner and National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), against the Government of Ghana. The lawsuit challenges the legality of the termination of appointments for individuals employed before and after December 7, 2025.
According to Nana B, the decision to file the lawsuit is aimed at contesting the constitutionality of the action. He contends that President John Mahama, acting through the Chief of Staff, exceeded his constitutional authority by directing heads of government institutions to revoke appointments and recruitments made within the public services of Ghana.
The controversy stems from a directive issued on February 10, 2025, which resulted in widespread dismissals. Nana B asserts that this directive is unconstitutional and seeks a declaration from the court to that effect. Additionally, he is seeking an injunction to prevent further implementation of the directive, arguing that any actions taken in compliance with the directive would be unlawful.
Furthermore, Nana B is requesting that the government be ordered to cover all court-related expenses and legal fees associated with the case. This legal action is seen as a challenge to the government’s decision, which Nana B believes is unjust and unconstitutional.
