The National Food Suppliers Association has stated that it is awaiting a purchasing order from the government to facilitate the distribution of food to Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country.Β Β
This announcement follows reports of food shortages in SHSs, with some stakeholders calling for schools to close until the issue is resolved. According to the association, it has sufficient food supplies in stock and is ready to distribute once authorization is granted.
Speaking to GHOne News, the President of the Association, Thomas Awuah, emphasized the importance of having formal approval before initiating supplies.
“We are ready to supply the food, but the government has changed, and we are waiting for a purchase order from the new administration. We have all the necessary food items in stock, but you cannot simply deliver supplies to a school without authorization. We need the green light from the appropriate authorities, such as a minister or director, to proceed,” Mr. Awuah explained.
He assured that once the authorization is given, the association could begin distribution immediately and ensure that all schools receive their supplies by Monday.
Mr. Awuah also urged the government to expedite the process, highlighting the urgency of the situation and the associationβs readiness to act.
“The complaints about food shortages are growing, and this needs to be resolved quickly to maintain stability. Fortunately, we have the food and financial capacity to address the issue. We are just waiting for the official go-ahead,” he added.
The association’s call for swift action underscores the importance of timely intervention to alleviate the ongoing food crisis in schools.
