World Vision Ghana (WVG), a non-governmental Christian relief, development, and advocacy organization, has condemned the recent incidents of bullying at Accra Academy and Zuarungu Senior High School.

The organization has called on the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service (GES), and other stakeholders to take immediate action to address the issue.

In a statement issued by Gregory L. Dery, Child Protection and Advocacy Manager at WVG, the organization urged the authorities to conduct swift investigations into the incidents, make the findings public, and hold those responsible accountable.

This, according to WVG, will help to bring sanity to the secondary education system.

The statement also emphasized the need for educational authorities to provide guidance and resources to schools to prevent and address bullying effectively. Furthermore, WVG called on the government to reinforce policies and laws to combat bullying and ensure strict enforcement to protect students.

According to Mr. Dery, bullying is a serious issue that can have long-lasting, devastating effects on the mental health, well-being, and academic performance of students. He stressed that schools must be safe spaces where students feel protected, valued, and empowered to learn and grow.

WVG recommended that schools establish clear policies and reporting mechanisms for bullying incidents, train teachers and staff on bullying prevention and intervention strategies, educate students on the harmful effects of bullying, and strengthen parent-school collaboration to ensure students’ safety and well-being.

The organization expressed its commitment to advocating for child protection and working alongside key stakeholders to build safer schools. World Vision Ghana stands in solidarity with the affected students and their families, emphasizing that every child has the right to a safe learning environment, free from fear and harassment.
