Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Sports Minister-designate, has emphasized the need to rekindle the nation’s passion for sports. He believes that by reigniting this passion, Ghana can ensure development across all sporting disciplines.

Adams made this call at the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) elective congress, held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, January 23, 2025. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the congress, Adams stressed the importance of stakeholder consultations and media involvement in achieving this goal.

“We need to bring back the love for our sports. One of the challenging aspects for our sports is funding, so we must all sit down and discuss how to resolve this issue,” Adams said. “If we can regenerate the love for sports, many more people would be willing to also come on board and deal with the funding challenge.”

According to Adams, funding is one of the major challenges facing Ghana’s sports sector. However, he is optimistic that if Ghanaians can redevelop their love for sports, more people will be willing to contribute to resolving the funding challenge.

Adams also highlighted the crucial role of the media in rekindling enthusiasm for sports and fostering unity among various federations. “The media would be a critical component in bringing back the love for sports, and we can’t do it without them,” he said. “Information sharing would be one of the things we would be working on so that a void is not created, and I stressed earlier that unity among federations would be crucial.”

As a sports enthusiast and fan of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Adams is committed to uniting fans and creating a more vibrant and productive sports industry. He plans to engage stakeholders to address pressing issues in the sports sector and has pledged to work closely with GHALCA and other organizations to revitalize sports in Ghana.

Adams’ nomination as Sports Minister has received mixed reactions, but he remains confident in his ability to succeed in the role. He is expected to go through the vetting process next week, where his qualifications for the position will be assessed by the Parliament’s Appointment Committee.

The Sports Minister-designate’s call to rekindle Ghana’s passion for sports has been welcomed by many, who believe that it is essential for the development of the country’s sports sector. With his experience and passion for sports, Adams is well-positioned to drive this agenda forward and bring about positive change in Ghana’s sports industry.
