2024 BECE Rules and Regulations
Bringing Unauthorized Materials into the Exam Hall
- With Printed Materials
- Confirmed for One Subject: Result for that subject will be withheld for investigation.
- Unconfirmed: Entire exam results will be withheld for investigation.
- With a Programmable Calculator
- Entire results will be withheld for investigation.
- With Inscriptions on Body/Clothing
- Entire results will be withheld for investigation.
- With Mobile Phones or Electronic Devices
- Entire results will be withheld for investigation.
Irregular Activities Inside or Outside the Exam Hall
- Serious Offenses
- Entire results will be withheld for:
- Stealing or misusing other students’ scripts.
- Swapping scripts during or after the exam.
- Submitting multiple scripts.
- Possessing more than one question paper or answer booklet.
- Receiving help from non-candidates (e.g., invigilators, supervisors, teachers).
- Entire results will be withheld for:
- Non-Candidate Help
- Non-candidates helping students will be banned from exams for one year and reported for disciplinary action.
- Other Irregularities
- Including tearing the question paper, refusing to submit scripts, writing before or after the exam time, or causing disturbances.
Collusion
- During the Exam
- Students caught helping each other will have their entire results withheld.
- Detected in Scripts
- If collusion is found in scripts, the entire results will be withheld.
- Multiple Subjects
- Proven collusion in more than one subject will result in the entire results being withheld.
Impersonation
- The impersonator will be handed to the police, and both the impersonator and the original candidate will have their results withheld and be banned from exams for at least two years.
Foreknowledge
- Established Case
- Students with prior knowledge of exam content will have results for that subject withheld.
- Involvement of Officials
- Officials involved will face appropriate sanctions.
- School Involvement
- Schools involved will lose recognition according to Rule 7.
Leakage
- Involved officials will face sanctions.
Mass Cheating
- One Subject
- All results at the center will be withheld.
- Multiple Subjects
- Additional actions include reporting to the Ministry of Education, de-recognizing the school, and possible penalties.
- Three or More Subjects
- The center’s recognition will be withdrawn and only restored after re-inspection and assurance of corrective measures.
Insult/Assault on Officials
- Insult/Assault
- Results will be withheld, the student will be banned for two years, and possibly prosecuted.
- Serious Assault
- Dangerous items to harm others will lead to results being withheld, a two-year ban, and possible prosecution.
- School Official Misconduct
- Insults or assaults on exam officials by school officials will lead to the school losing recognition for at least two years and covering treatment costs if the assault causes injury.
Contravention of Instructions
- Improper Writing Tools
- Single Offense Confirmed: Result for that subject will be withheld.
- Unconfirmed: Entire results will be withheld.
- Incomplete Answer Booklet Cover
- Similar withholding rules apply.
Multiple Registrations/Unqualified Candidates
- Multiple Registrations
- Multiple registrations and attending different centers will result in withheld results.
- Unqualified Registrations
- School officials registering unqualified candidates or falsifying records will result in the school being de-recognized for at least one year.
Destruction of Evidence
- Destroying evidence of an offense will lead to withheld results.
Posting Live Questions Online
- Posting or receiving live questions will result in withheld results and sanctions for involved officials.
Refusal to Grant Access

- The school will be de-recognized for two years.
Misconduct of Exam Officials
- Found with Relevant Materials
- The official will be handed to the police and reported to their employer.

- The school will be de-recognized for two years.
