PWDs to enjoy free tertiary education

The Government of Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive education, with a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing free tertiary education to persons with disabilities (PWDs).
This pioneering effort, championed by President John Dramani Mahama, seeks to bridge the educational divide and empower qualified PWDs to reach their full potential.
According to the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the policy is ready to be rolled out after consultations with relevant stakeholders. The Ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Education to ensure a seamless implementation process.
Speaking at a special thanksgiving service at Lashibi in Accra, Dr. Lartey emphasized the government’s commitment to fulfilling its 120-day social contract with the people. She highlighted several initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Ghanaians, including the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank.
The Women’s Development Bank, slated to be operationalized within the 120-day timeframe, will provide financial support to women entrepreneurs and be managed and staffed entirely by women. Dr. Lartey noted that the Ministry has concluded consultations and is making steady progress toward achieving this goal.
The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Reverend Dr. Stephen Wengam, commended members of the church for their active participation in leadership positions, including governance.
