NUGS to sue WAEC over withheld WASSCE results

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has taken a strong stance against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) over the withholding of WASSCE results.
NUGS has announced plans to sue WAEC for its decision to release results only after university admissions have closed, effectively denying affected students the opportunity to secure placements in public universities.
The union has already notified the Greater Accra Regional Police Command of its intention to stage a protest, demanding justice for affected students. NUGS President Daniel Korley Botchway emphasized that the union seeks to expose WAEC’s abuse of power and ensure that this injustice does not happen again.
“We seek to bring home the minds of Ghanaians to the abuse of power and discretionary power of WAEC that what they have done is an injustice and that it should not happen again.
Beyond this demonstration, it will not end there. We are also going to proceed to go to court. Admissions have closed. And so we are also going to get a declaration from the court to make sure that this doesnβt happen next year.”
The union is advocating for the release of the withheld results and is prepared to take legal action to ensure justice is served. The protest and subsequent legal action are aimed at exposing WAEC’s abuse of power and ensuring that this injustice does not happen again.
Additionally, NUGS is demanding reforms within WAEC to prevent similar injustices in the future.
