LGSWU Disassociates Itself from CLOGSAG’s Ongoing Industrial Action

The Local Government Service Workers’ Union (LGSWU) has formally disassociated itself from the ongoing industrial action initiated by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG).
The strike, which commenced on Thursday, February 20, 2025, is a protest against the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, a decision CLOGSAG perceives as being politically influenced.
In a statement released on Friday, February 21, the LGSWU clarified its position, citing an ongoing legal case related to the matter. Consequently, the union has directed its members to continue performing their duties without interruption.
The LGSWU’s decision was reached following consultations with regional councils, culminating in a unanimous resolution not to participate in the strike action. This development underscores the union’s commitment to upholding the principles of industrial relations while navigating the complexities of the ongoing dispute.
Meanwhile, the Government has appealed to CLOGSAG to reconsider its stance and call off the strike, emphasizing that the President’s appointment of Botchway was in accordance with established laws and regulations. However, CLOGSAG has thus far rejected these overtures, maintaining its resolve to pursue the industrial action.
As the situation continues to unfold, stakeholders are closely monitoring developments, seeking a resolution that balances the competing interests of the parties involved.
