Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO and the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued an apology for his recent remarks about Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah.
In a brief statement, Dr. Opoku Prempeh clarified that his comments were his personal opinion and were not meant to disrespect Kwame Nkrumah or any other former president.

The apology follows a controversial statement made at his unveiling in Kumasi, where he claimed that no president in Ghana’s history, including Kwame Nkrumah, had outperformed President Akufo-Addo. This remark sparked significant backlash, with many demanding an apology and a retraction.
Responding to the public outcry, Dr. Opoku Prempeh issued an apology, stating, “I wish to emphasize that I never meant to disrespect our former president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, or any of our former heads of state; including my grand uncle and mentor, John Agyekum Kufuor.”
He further acknowledged the concerns raised by his statement, expressing regret for any discomfort caused. “I note the concerns raised after my statement, I apologize sincerely and regret any discomfort caused,” he added.
