Government to maintain teacher trainee allowance – Education Minister
The government has reiterated its commitment to supporting teacher trainees, with the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, announcing that the teacher trainee allowance will be maintained for the time being.
This decision is aimed at ensuring that students pursuing higher education in the teaching profession continue to receive the necessary financial support.
During a recent meeting with Principals of Colleges of Education in Accra, Minister Iddrisu emphasized the importance of sustaining student allowances, citing their direct impact on students’ welfare and future prospects.
However, the government intends to transition students to an enhanced student loan scheme, aimed at promoting autonomy and self-sufficiency among students.
The forthcoming education conference, scheduled to take place from February 17 to 20, will provide a platform for stakeholders to address the myriad challenges facing Ghana’s education sector. Key issues to be discussed include infrastructure deficits and the lack of academic facilities.
Minister Iddrisu has assured that the government will allocate sufficient resources to address these concerns, despite competing demands from various educational levels.
Professor Samuel Awinkene Atintono, President of the Principals of Colleges of Education, underscored the need for urgent attention to be given to the challenges facing the education sector.
These concerns include delayed payment of allowances and infrastructure deficits, which necessitate prompt intervention to ensure the smooth operation of educational institutions.
