A crisis is developing as the 2023 batch of trained teachers serving their mandatory National Service across the country have not been paid for nearly five months. This prolonged delay in receiving their allowances has left many struggling financially and unable to meet basic needs.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) has not provided a clear explanation for the delay, causing frustration and disillusionment among the affected personnel.

“We are disheartened by the lack of communication and action from the NSS,” said Justice, a teacher serving in the Central Region.

“We are dedicated to serving our nation and educating the young ones, but we cannot continue to do so without the basic financial support we are entitled to,” stated another affected teacher, echoing the sentiments of many colleagues.

The delay in payments has created significant hardship for these teachers. Many are facing difficulties covering essential expenses such as rent, food, and transportation.

Calls for immediate action are increasing, with the personnel demanding transparency and accountability from the NSS. They are urging the NSS to address the payment issue urgently and provide a clear timeline for when the outstanding allowances will be disbursed.
