The Ghana Teacher Prize (GTP) 2024 was officially inaugurated in Accra to celebrate the dedication and hard work of teachers across the country. The ceremony, which took place from October 3 to 5 at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, aligned with World Teachers’ Day. This year’s theme was “Celebrating Excellence: Valuing Our Teachers.”

Various award categories recognized outstanding achievements, including Most Outstanding Teacher, Best College of Education Teacher, Best Teacher in Leadership and Administration, Best Non-Teaching Staff, Best KG Teacher, Best Primary School Teacher, Best JHS Teacher, and Best SHS Teacher. A new category, Best Differentiated Learning Teacher, was also introduced.

Deputy Minister of Education Rev. John Ntim Fordjour highlighted the pivotal role of teachers in national progress, referencing the notable accomplishments of Ghanaian teachers in the Global Teacher Prize. He urged teachers, especially those in underserved areas, to share their significant experiences.

Dr. Eric Nkansah, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), emphasized the GES’s commitment to improving educational outcomes and focusing on teacher well-being. Efforts were made to enhance the GES Management Information System for more effective educational data management.

Lawrence Sarpong, Deputy Registrar of Operations at the National Teaching Council (NTC), stressed the importance of offering extensive support to teachers, including necessary resources, professional development, and a supportive work environment.

Awards for the recipients included substantial prizes, with the overall winner receiving a three-bedroom apartment and other winners being awarded vehicles or cash prizes.

The event was sponsored by the Ghana Education Trust Fund, GCB Bank Limited, and other prominent organizations.
