The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) is set to undergo a significant technological upgrade, moving from manual to digital operations.

Announced by Gender Minister Darkoa Newman in Accra, this initiative aims to enhance transparency, reduce delays, and improve resource management within the programme.

Under the new system, prospective caterers will be required to apply online and pay a non-refundable fee of GHΒ’200. An integrated information management system will handle the selection of caterers, data collection, and payment processing.

Minister Newman explained at a press briefing organized by the Ministry of Information that the updated process will facilitate online applications for all interested caterers. They will need to pay the GHΒ’200 fee, create a profile, and complete their application online. This briefing also included updates on the GSFP and the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, 2024.β€œWe will implement an information management system to oversee the entire process, including caterer selection, data collection, and payment management. Moving forward, all aspects of the system will be handled online,” she detailed. The system will be initially piloted in the New Juaben South and Krachi East districts before a nationwide implementation for the 2024/2025 academic year.

β€œFollowing the pilot phase, the national rollout will begin. An announcement will soon be made regarding the expansion to all 16 regions, beyond the two districts currently covered,” she stated.

Mrs. Newman emphasized that the digital platform aims to eliminate past discrepancies and prevent fraud within the programme.

She also advised prospective caterers to ensure they meet specific requirements, including demonstrating pre-financing capabilities with at least GHΒ’5,000 in their accounts and holding a valid health certificate, before applying.
