Ghana Education Service (GES) Releases 2024 SHS Selection Form

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the second-cycle school selection form for students who completed the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). This form is crucial for students to select their preferred Senior High Schools (SHS) for computer placement.

Guidelines for Selecting SHS

The 2024 second-cycle school selection form offers clear instructions for choosing public Senior High Schools in Ghana. Schools are categorized into four groups (A through D) and Technical institutions.

Students need to:

  1. Select Six Schools: Pick six schools and rank them in order of preference.
  2. Choose Programs and Accommodation: Specify the programs and whether you prefer boarding or day school for each option.
  3. Compulsory Day School: As your sixth choice, select a day school within 16 kilometers of your Junior High School (JHS) or a boarding school from a specific list.
  4. Second Placement Options: If none of your six choices are available, select five schools from a specified list for a second placement opportunity.

Additional Considerations

  • Category Limits: You can only choose one school from Category A and up to two from Category B.
  • Categories C and D: Choose up to five schools from Category C and one from Category D (Day) or Appendix 3 (Special Boarding).
  • TVET Programs: If interested in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET), select all six TVET institutes from Categories A, B, and C, either as day or boarding students.

Do’s and Don’ts of SHS Selection

Do’s:

  1. Carefully review and rank all school choices.
  2. Prioritize schools according to preference.
  3. Choose a compulsory day school within your catchment area.
  4. Consult with teachers about realistic admission chances.
  5. Confirm technical programs are available at your selected schools.

Don’ts:

  1. Don’t let others make your school choices for you.
  2. Don’t rely on internet cafe attendants for self-placement.
  3. Don’t assume you can switch from day to boarding school after admission.
  4. Don’t expect to switch to a more competitive program after admission.
  5. Don’t base choices on friends’ decisions or desired programs.

Key Dates

The school selection process will run from August 28th to September 4th, 2024.
