In a recent communiqué from the Ghana Education Service (GES) Headquarters in Accra, Deputy Director-General Stephen Kwaku Owusu reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to addressing ongoing salary-related issues affecting its staff. Dated August 19, 2024, the letter was directed to all Regional Directors, emphasizing the management’s dedication to prioritizing employee welfare.

The GES acknowledged the distress and disruption caused by salary discrepancies and their impact on staff productivity. In response, the GES has established a Technical Working Team in collaboration with the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) to expedite the resolution of outstanding salary matters, including reactivations, responsibility allowances, and the salaries of new entrants.

The letter, also shared with the Director-General and all General Managers of Education, detailed an ambitious timeline for resolving most of these issues by the end of August and September 2024. It also expressed appreciation to the staff for their continued commitment and hard work despite the financial challenges.

This update is expected to provide relief to many in the education sector who have been dealing with delayed salaries and financial difficulties. The GES’s proactive approach aims to stabilize staff finances and improve overall morale, thereby enhancing the quality of education across Ghana.

As the deadline approaches, the effectiveness of these measures will be closely monitored, with the hope that they will address the financial concerns of staff and contribute positively to the educational sector’s performance.
