The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the commencement of a headcount and verification exercise across all Senior High and Technical Schools (SHTS) in Ghana.

This exercise is a critical step in ensuring the accuracy of student enrollment records, particularly following the annual placement of students. By conducting this exercise, the GES aims to enhance accountability and efficiency in the education sector, especially concerning resource allocation and financial management.

The headcount and verification exercise is designed to achieve two primary objectives. Firstly, it seeks to reconcile the enrollment data recorded in the Student Information System (SIS) with the actual number of students physically present in schools. This measure ensures that the records maintained in the system accurately reflect the on-the-ground realities. Secondly, the exercise aims to validate the student enrollment data to facilitate streamlined payment-related activities for schools.

In a directive issued to Regional Directors of Education, the GES has emphasized the urgency of notifying school heads about the exercise. The service has assured stakeholders that this initiative is a routine procedure aimed at improving the quality and reliability of data within the educational system. By undertaking this exercise, the GES demonstrates its commitment to maintaining transparency and ensuring that schools are adequately equipped to handle the needs of their students. Ultimately, the headcount and verification exercise is a proactive step towards effective management of the growing student population across SHTS and ensuring that accurate data is available for informed decision-making.
