The Volta Region is poised to become a major tourism hub, thanks to the vision of its Minister-designate, James Gunu. During his vetting in Parliament, Gunu emphasized the region’s vast tourism potential, citing its unique topography and numerous attractions.

He pledged to collaborate with the Ministers for Roads and Highways and Creative Arts to ensure that tourism in the region reaches its full potential. Gunu acknowledged the challenges facing the region’s tourism sector, including the lack of motorable roads to many tourist sites. He vowed to address this issue, recognizing that accessibility is crucial to unlocking the region’s tourism potential.

The Volta Region boasts an impressive array of tourist attractions, including Mount Gemi, a prominent landmark with breathtaking views, and the Wli Waterfalls in the Hohoe enclave, a popular destination.

Additionally, Amedzofe’s canopy walk offers a unique perspective on the region’s lush forests, while Tafi Atome’s monkey forest is home to a variety of primate species.

The Afadzato South District’s snake forest is a haven for reptile enthusiasts, and Abutia and parts of Adaklu are home to an array of wildlife. The region is also rich in history, with colonial buildings in Kpando offering a glimpse into the past.

Furthermore, the region’s coastal areas boast beautiful, clean beaches and resorts, making it an ideal destination for tourists.

Local reports indicate that nearly 1,000 people visit the region on weekends for tourism purposes, including attending festivals and funerals. With Gunu’s commitment to improving accessibility and promoting the region’s tourism sector, the Volta Region is poised to become a major tourist destination in Ghana.

As the region continues to develop its tourism infrastructure, it is likely to attract even more visitors, bringing economic benefits and opportunities to the local community.
