The Ghana Education Service (GES) has introduced a new SMS bundle offer, “GES 2 MOORCH,” in collaboration with Telecel, a telecommunications provider. This initiative includes affordable call rates, data packages, and an SMS bundle for GES employees, with all costs covered by the subscription price, including applicable taxes.

Subscribing teachers will benefit from reduced rates for both OnNet and OffNet calls, as well as ample internet data. Calls to other networks will use the allocated OffNet minutes. To enroll in and benefit from the 2 Moorch plan, which offers a comprehensive bundle of phone minutes, data, and SMS, along with additional data allocations for whitelisted sites, GES staff members are required to provide their Telecel numbers.Dr. Joe Anokye, Director-General of the Authority, indicated in an interview monitored by GES QUICKnews BROADCAST that, data prices are forecasted to decrease by the end of 2024 with the introduction of the NGIC wholesale carrier-neutral open access network. He noted that the network, projected to launch in the final quarter of the year, will allow operators such as AT, Telecel, and MTN to acquire bulk data without the need for upgrading towers or equipment, resulting in greater efficiency and reduced costs.Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, the Director-General of the NCA highlighted that data prices are anticipated to decrease, especially with the upcoming launch of the NGIC wholesale carrier-neutral open access network. He explained that operators like AT, Telecel, and MTN will be able to purchase bulk data without the need to upgrade towers or invest in new equipment for 4G services, as these responsibilities will be handled by another entity. The network is expected to launch by the last quarter of the year, after which additional towers will be rolled out. He emphasized the need for optimism moving forward.
