Family Seeks Justice After 19-Year-Old Student’s Alleged Assault by Teachers
Allegations of physical abuse at a school prompt family to call for immediate action and transparency

A 19-year-old final-year student of St Andrews Senior High School in Sehwi Asawinso, Western North Region, allegedly endured a severe beating by two teachers, prompting his family to seek justice.
Footage shared on social media displays the studentβs back covered in numerous welts, igniting concerns regarding the incident’s specifics and the resulting injuries.
After classmates hurried him to the SDA Clinic in Sehwi Asawinso, a physician assistant confirmed the student received treatment and was discharged. Lucy Aboagye from the clinic stated, βHe reported here this morning and there was evidence. There were marks on his skin that show that indeed he was beaten.β
The precise details surrounding the alleged attack remain uncertain. However, an uncle of the victim shared insight into the events leading up to the incident: “The child went for classes this morning and after the classes, he wanted to get something to eat. He met his teacher who said his hair was bushy.” According to the uncle, the teacher then grabbed the student by his uniform and beat him with a cane. He continued, βI saw the child and asked him if he provoked him but he said no. The child is a very humble child. He cooks for his father. They operate a chop bar in the village. He is not known to be somebody who is abusive. Itβs serious. The child did not provoke them. Itβs about the hair.β
The family and the community have expressed dismay and are calling for an explanation and appropriate action from the school administration. Yet, their attempts to obtain a statement from the school have proven fruitless, as the headmaster declined to comment when approached.
