Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, has emphasized the crucial role of accountability in eliminating impunity in Ghana. Speaking at the 43rd anniversary of the 31st December Revolution, she stressed that the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government must prioritize resetting and recalibrating the country’s direction.

Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings highlighted the importance of consequence management in holding individuals accountable for their actions. She believes that this will help rid the country of the culture of impunity that has taken hold. The MP also urged adherence to the principles of humility, integrity, and accountability, which were foundational to the Revolution that gave rise to the Fourth Republic.

Furthermore, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings described the mandate given to the NDC by the people of Ghana as “sacred and solemn.” She emphasized the need for collective accountability, stating that it is not enough to have good leaders, but citizens must also ensure they are keeping their leaders accountable.

The MP also reflected on Ghana’s resilience, citing the example of the 1980s when millions of Ghanaians were forcibly expelled from Nigeria. She emphasized the importance of good followership, asserting that it is as essential as good leadership for good governance.

Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings concluded by urging Ghanaians to engage in deep introspection, considering how they can work together to make Ghana a better place for current and future generations.¹
