Dr. Eric Nkansah fired as Director-General of Ghana Education Service
Government Reshuffles Leadership to Address Education Sector Challenges

The government has announced a change in leadership at the Ghana Education Service (GES), with Dr. Eric Nkansah being relieved of his duties as Director-General, effective immediately.
Dr. Nkansah had held the position since January 2023. During his tenure, Dr. Nkansah brought a unique blend of educational and banking experience to the role. His background includes teaching stints at Christian Education Complex Junior High School and Kintampo Senior High School, as well as a six-year tenure at Barclays Bank (now Absa), where he rose to the position of Sales Manager. Additionally, Dr. Nkansah lectured part-time at the Business School of Garden City University College, Kumasi.
The government has appointed Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, Provost of the College of Education at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), as the new Director-General of GES. Prof. Davis possesses a wealth of academic and administrative experience, making him an ideal candidate to lead the GES.
The change in leadership is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the education sector and address its challenges. The GES is committed to providing quality education to all Ghanaians, and Prof. Davis’s leadership is expected to contribute significantly to achieving this goal.
