Dec 7 appointments: We’re dialoguing with govt – Leadership of Pre-Tertiary Teacher Unions assures members

The Pre-Tertiary Teacher Unions in Ghana have urged teachers to remain calm amid concerns about the potential revocation of their appointments. The Ghana Education Service (GES) issued a circular directing schools to terminate the appointments of teachers recruited after December 7, sparking anxiety among teachers.
General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Thomas Tanko Musah, emphasized the importance of giving the employer the benefit of hindsight and working together to resolve any issues. “We need to give the employer the benefit of hindsight…let us work to resolve all the issues,” he noted.
President of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), King Ali Awudu, cautioned the GES to proceed slowly, highlighting the significant number of vacancies in the education service and the recent recruitment of 20,000 teachers.
The directive has raised concerns about the potential disruption to the education sector, particularly given the recent recruitment of 20,000 teachers. The Pre-Tertiary Teacher Unions are urging the government to reconsider the directive and to work with teachers to find a solution that benefits everyone.
