CLOGSAG Declares Nationwide Strike Over Births and Deaths Registrar Appointment

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has declared a nationwide industrial action in response to the contentious appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of Births and Deaths Registry.
This decision was made after the National Executive Council (NEC) of CLOGSAG convened on February 11, 2025, to deliberate on concerns regarding the appointment of politically exposed persons in the Civil Service and Local Governments.
According to CLOGSAG, Botchway’s appointment is a flagrant contravention of the principles of neutrality and impartiality that underpin the Civil Service and Local Government. The association’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, stated that the NEC decided to declare a nationwide strike should Botchway assume office, which he did on February 12, 2025.
In a press release dated February 13, 2025, Addo emphasized that CLOGSAG has no option but to call for a nationwide strike, commencing on Thursday, February 20, 2025. The association is urging all its members to abstain from work until further notice.
This move underscores CLOGSAG’s vehement opposition to the appointment of politically exposed individuals to key positions within the Civil Service and Local Government, which they believe undermines the integrity and credibility of these institutions.
