Comprehensive Update on CETAG Strike: Impacts on Academic Calendar, Examinations, and Other Developments

The strike by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) persists, with no resolution in sight, as the government struggles to implement the NLC Arbitration Awards demanded by the teachers. CETAG remains adamant that they will only end the strike once the government fulfills its promises. The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed on July 26 stipulates that all awards should be implemented by the end of August. However, CETAG asserts that the strike will continue until a resolution is reached.
Consequently, colleges of education may need to restart their second semester for the 2023/2024 academic year, likely beginning in September. This could, in turn, delay the admission process for the 2024/2025 academic year, which is scheduled to commence in October. Additionally, the lost contact hours due to the strike render students ineligible to take any examinations until the industrial action is resolved.
Simultaneously, the National Labour Commission (NLC) is pursuing legal action to halt the strike by seeking an injunction against CETAG’s industrial action on August 6. However, with no immediate resolution in sight, trainees and other stakeholders continue to endure the disruptions caused by the strike.
