NPP’s Mahamudu Bawumia Launches First STEM College of Education in Karaga

Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party, Mahamudu Bawumia, has inaugurated the construction of the first STEM College of Education for aspiring teachers. Located in Karaga, a town in the Northern Region, the Namburugu STEM College of Education aims to specialize in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Features of the Namburugu STEM College of Education

  • Accommodations: The college will house both male and female aspiring teachers.
  • Facilities: It will include an 800-seater auditorium, an ICT center, and living quarters for the Principal, Vice Principal, and other professional teachers.

Purpose and Impact

The college is designed to train STEM enthusiasts who are passionate about teaching. These trained professionals will teach STEM subjects to senior high school students and other educational institutions in Ghana and beyond.

Commitment to Education

During his speech on Sunday, July 14, 2024, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the NPP’s dedication to transforming Ghana’s education sector to meet the demands of the 21st-century job market. He highlighted various initiatives such as:

  • Free Senior High School and TVET education
  • Construction of new, modern ICT-based schools
  • Specialized STEM High Schools, including one in Kpasinkpe
  • Provision of tablets to SHS students

Dr. Bawumia stated, “This government continues to invest heavily in the education sector. This commitment is evident in many ways, including the provision of Free Senior High School, Free TVET education; building new, modern ICT-based schools; construction of specialised STEM High Schools, one of which is not too far from here, in Kpasinkpe, and recently, the supply of Tablets to students in SHS.”

The Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. Ntim Fordjour, urged contractors to deliver a high-quality project promptly, stating, “This historic institution will be a world-class training facility, providing skills and knowledge for those who would shape the minds of our children.”
