Three Salaga SHS Students Fined GHC1,200 Each for Unlawful Possession of Firearm

Three students of Salaga Senior High School in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region have been fined GHC1,200 each by the Salaga Magistrate Court for unlawful possession of a firearm. Failure to pay the fine will result in a six-month prison term.
Additionally, the accused students have signed a bond to maintain good behavior for twelve months. A breach of this bond will lead to a twelve-year prison sentence.
The students had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge. Their arrest followed a violent confrontation on February 4, during which twenty students of the school were detained by police. One student sustained multiple stab wounds during the altercation.
A locally manufactured pistol and one round of ammunition were recovered during the investigation. School authorities and community stakeholders have strongly condemned the incident.
A police source emphasized their commitment to ensuring accountability, stating, “We have handed them over to the Police and hope they screen them thoroughly and ensure those found culpable face the full rigors of the law.”
School officials expressed disappointment in the students’ actions, underscoring their dedication to maintaining discipline and order within the school.
