University of Ghana Commissions Diamond Jubilee Hall, a 1,256-bed Facility
The University of Ghana has commissioned a new 1,256-bed facility, the Diamond Jubilee Hall, as part of its efforts to improve student accommodation on campus.
This modern facility is a legacy project of the university’s 75th Anniversary celebration and aligns with its strategic plan to provide students with a transformative experience.
The Diamond Jubilee Hall is the result of innovation and collaboration, providing a long-term and cost-effective solution to current student housing issues.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, the facility exemplifies the university’s commitment to using its resources efficiently, as it was developed from an existing incomplete building.
Prof. Felix A. Asante, Pro VC in charge of Research, Innovation, and Development and Chair of the Infrastructure Development Committee, noted that the project was primarily funded through the university’s research internally generated funds.
He expressed gratitude to the staff of the Physical Development and Municipal Services Directorate (PDMSD), whose expertise was instrumental during the construction process.
Mr. Peter Abalansah, the Ag. Director of PDMSD, provided an overview of the new facility’s bed capacity by room and block. He disclosed that additional facilities, such as shops, eateries, and laundry services, will be built to improve students’ experiences at the Hall.
The commissioning of the Diamond Jubilee Hall marks a significant milestone in the university’s efforts to enhance student life and academic experience.
With its modern amenities and spacious accommodations, the facility is poised to become a hub of student activity and community engagement.
