Vice President-elect Naana Opoku-Agyemang might present 2025 mini-budget β NDC caucus in Parliament

Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the incoming Vice-President, is likely to present a temporary budget statement to Parliament after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assumes office on January 7, 2025, according to the partyβs parliamentary caucus.
This announcement comes in response to concerns over the outgoing governmentβs failure to deliver the Expenditure in Advance of Appropriation, which typically allows a new administration a three-month spending window before presenting a full budget.
The absence of this measure has sparked fears about funding arrangements for early 2025.
In a statement issued on December 20, 2024, the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, expressed disappointment with the current governmentβs inaction but assured the public that the situation would be addressed.
He explained, βThere is no cause for alarm. Even though there will be no Minister of Finance on January 7, 2025, the Vice-President can present the Expenditure in Advance of Appropriation to Parliament after her swearing-in, and the House will expedite its approval.β
Dr. Forson also emphasized that the outgoing Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration would remain accountable for all unmet state obligations from January 1 to January 7, 2025. He reassured Ghanaians that the NDC would take the necessary steps to ensure a smooth financial transition.
