Director of Finance and Administration of Ghana Baptist Convention Urges Government to Extend Free TVET Tuition to Private Institutions
Empowering Youth through Technical and Vocational Education
Rev. Tetteh-Annor Larbi, Director of Finance and Administration at the Ghana Baptist Convention, has urged the government to expand its free Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) tuition policy to include private and mission institutions, such as the Baptist Vocational Training Institute (BVTI). This appeal was made during BVTI’s 25th-anniversary celebration and graduation ceremony, where Rev. Larbi emphasized that extending free TVET tuition to mission-based institutions would enhance access to quality vocational education for marginalized communities.
The MTN Ghana Foundation generously donated GHβ΅50,000 towards start-up equipment for graduating students, enabling them to start businesses in trades like sewing, hairdressing, and catering. Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor of Ho Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Mrs. Lydia Aziato, encouraged parents to view TVET as a valuable pathway to success, offering significant opportunities for skill development and economic independence.
During the ceremony, students received essential equipment, including sewing machines, hairdryers, and microwave ovens, to facilitate their transition into the workforce. BVTI’s mission is to provide holistic, skill-based education to underprivileged youth, addressing the needs of Ghana’s job market. With over two decades of impact, the institute continues to play a critical role in vocational education.
The government has already announced free access to 2024/2025 SHS/TVET placement results, demonstrating its commitment to expanding educational opportunities. By extending free TVET tuition to private and mission institutions, the government can further enhance access to quality vocational education, aligning with its vision for technical and vocational sectors.
