The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the highly anticipated academic calendar for the 2024/2025 academic year, outlining critical dates and schedules for second-cycle institutions across Ghana.

Commencement and Transition

The new academic year kicks off on October 30, 2024, for all students, including those in single-track and transitional schools. First-year students in transitional calendar schools will wrap up their 2023/2024 academic year on October 28, 2024, and seamlessly transition into the new academic year.

Academic Objectives

The GES aims to revert to the traditional September start date in subsequent years and ensure students sit for the 2024/2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in May/June 2025.

Structured Schedules

The calendar features tailored tracks for different student levels and forms, optimizing learning time and academic planning.

Breaks and Holidays

Eligible voters will enjoy a brief break from December 5 to 9, 2024, while Christmas break spans from December 20, 2024, to January 2, 2025.

Implementation and Adherence

Regional directors must communicate the calendar details to institution heads, ensuring strict adherence.

Stabilizing the Academic Schedule

This adjustment addresses disruptions caused by external factors like the COVID-19 pandemic, providing ample time for academic learning and national examinations.

Conclusion

The GES reaffirms its commitment to a stable and effective academic environment. This revised calendar reinstates structure and aligns Ghana’s education system with future WASSCE and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) schedules.
