A tragic incident has shaken the O’Reilly Senior High School community as an 18-year-old final-year student, Edward Borketey Sackey, was fatally stabbed on campus during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Several news outlets, including gossipmotion.com, have reported on the heartbreaking event, which occurred on Monday. Edward was pronounced dead upon arrival at the LEKMA hospital.
Edward, a General Arts student, had just completed a WASSCE paper when an argument with a fellow student escalated into violence. The disagreement reportedly centered around a boastful exchange about whose father was wealthier.
A cousin of Edward recounted the events leading up to the fight, stating, “We heard some noise at the back and asked what was wrong. They said it was Godwin and Edward fighting. I asked what the fight was about, and they said it was nothing serious.” She explained that the quarrel began over a trivial matter—an argument about possessions and wealth.
Later, Godwin allegedly approached Edward’s cousin, warning her to tell her “brother or else his blood will flow,” after Edward had sought help from teachers who reportedly took no action. Concerned, the cousin rushed to inform her uncle about the situation but found him unavailable. Upon her return, she discovered Edward covered in blood, having been allegedly stabbed by Godwin.
The police have since arrested the suspect, a fellow final-year student, in connection with the stabbing.
Edward’s father shared his grief, recounting the moment he was informed of the incident. “What happened was yesterday [Monday, September 2], I saw my boy off to come to school, and I went to work. I received a call from my niece that Edward was having a misunderstanding with another student, and I should come.” Unfortunately, by the time he arrived at the hospital, it was too late. “The doctor said Edward had passed away. When they showed me the body, he had been stabbed three times in his chest.”
This tragic event has left the community in shock, mourning the loss of a young life over a senseless dispute.
