2024 SHS School Placement Updates for BECE Students
The Ministry of Education has advised the public to disregard recent claims regarding mistakes in this year’s Senior High School (SHS) selection process for the Computerized School Placement System (CSSPS).
These rumors began after a statement, allegedly signed by Cassandra Twum-Ampofo, the spokesperson for the Ghana Education Service (GES), suggested that errors in the process had caused issues in identifying the placement status of some students.
In response, Kwasi Kwarteng, the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Education, labeled the statement as false. He clarified that out of the 569,095 results received from WAEC, 451,797 students qualified for placement. Students and parents are advised to confirm their status through the Self-Placement module by contacting the official WhatsApp number provided before the deadline.
The fabricated statement also falsely claimed that 10,898 BECE results had been withheld due to examination malpractices. However, no such announcement has been made by official authorities.
In the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), a total of 569,095 students (282,648 boys and 286,447 girls) from 19,506 public and private Junior High Schools participated. The exams were conducted from Monday, July 8 to Monday, July 15, 2024.
For BECE private candidates, 1,366 students (735 boys and 631 girls) took part in the exams at 15 centers across regional capitals. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) deployed 2,123 supervisors, 1,889 assistant supervisors, and 19,973 invigilators to oversee the smooth conduct of the exams in 2,123 centers nationwide.
